A street-savvy cat transformed his life, going from a rough existence to becoming the foster dad for a bunch of kittens, all while finding the loving home he had always longed for.
Upon arriving at his foster home, the orange and white cat, named Mickey, had a chance at a better life. His past on the streets had been harsh, a nearly two-year-long struggle for survival. Understandably, Mickey was quite timid, immediately seeking refuge in a hiding spot. But as he crossed paths with his foster mom, Kristen Sterner, things began to change.
Thanks to the support of St. Francis Society Animal Rescue, Mickey would never have to face the outside world again. Kristen gave him the time and space he needed to decompress and learn that he was truly loved.
“Within a day, I just felt so bonded to him. Like I knew him and knew what he was telling me through his big beautiful green eyes,” Kristen shared with Love Meow.
Gradually, Mickey started to relax, eventually finding a soft bed to nestle in and kneading away contentedly. When the time was right for socialization, Kristen introduced him to a pair of foster kittens. Quickly, he took them under his wing, showering them with affectionate baths and cuddles.
The kittens were drawn to Mickey, following him around like he was their “mom.” He allowed them to climb all over him, play with his tail, nibble on his ears, and engage in playful wrestling. He reveled in the company of the kittens, while they appreciated having him as a mentor.
After finding Mickey a forever home, he was adopted by a loving family. However, despite their best efforts to help him acclimate, he continued to hide under the bed for several weeks, as if something was missing. Kristen assured them that if things didn’t work out, she would happily take him back, as her priority was to find him the perfect fit.
When Mickey returned to his foster home, Kristen provided him with a “kitty cave” where he could retreat whenever he needed to feel secure. She spoke to him gently and petted him, eventually winning him over with patience and care.
During this time, more foster kittens arrived. Mickey’s ears perked up at the sound of their squeaks, and he instantly became their devoted caretaker, showering them with love and snuggles. He became their guardian, watching over them and ensuring they stayed out of trouble.
The kittens adored Mickey, cuddling up to him when he washed their faces or wrapped his arms around them. He seemed to intuitively understand their needs and remained by their side all day, offering comfort and companionship. Even when one of the kittens passed away, Mickey sat by Kristen’s side, trying to provide solace.
Ultimately, Mickey’s foster family decided to adopt him, as they couldn’t imagine life without him. He had chosen them and their home, where he felt safe, loved, and where he could care for kittens alongside Kristen.
Now, Mickey lives his best life with the family of his dreams. He gives the kittens the same love he received when he was rescued. Mickey, once a street-smart cat, has transformed into the best foster kitten nanny around, a true embodiment of love and care.
