A student called in a tip about a dog with a large tumor wandering on street, so we quickly went to take a look. It’s an elderly female and the tumor really is big, impeding her ability to walk. We call her Gertrude, or Trudy for short.

Trudy resisted arrest but calmed down once we gave her some food. She must have been starving for a long time. She looks very tired and sad, the tumor might take all her strength.

I’m so sorry to hear about Trudy’s situation. It must have been heartbreaking for her owner to have to abandon her due to her end-stage cancer. Abandoning a pet is never the right choice, but I understand that sometimes it can feel like the only option.

At this point, Trudy’s best option is to receive treatment and care from a loving and experienced veterinarian. Seeing a vet could help alleviate some of her pain and give her a better quality of life.

I hope she is able to get the care she needs so that she can live out her days in comfort.
