Record of parasitism in (Sporophila caerulescens) by (Philornis sp.)
Genus of Flies that has decimated the population of Finches on the Galapagos Islands, which has mobilized several researchers in order to find solutions that save finches from extinction,
as they do not have most often defenses against the parasite.
In Brazil flies of this genus parasitize several species but with a lower degree of lethality due to the adaptations and natural defenses of our birds.
